SES SUZUKI ENGINEERING STANDARD Code of Zinc-containing Rustproof Coating SES D 2204a ASSUED DATE Nov, 20 1981 REVISED DATE DEC, 16 2004 ENGINEERING ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT SUZUKI MOTOR CORPORATION This is the English standard translated from the original written in Japanese. Tn case where there e: is any difference between the two versions, the Japanese version shall govern. 1s SES D 22040 Code of Zinc-containing Rustproof Coating 1. Seope ‘This standard describes the code of zinc-containing rustproof conting (hereinafter referred to as the “ ating”) which is applied to the base metal of ferrous parts for corrosion prevention. (Roforontial Information) Zinc-oonlaining rustproof couling has two categories. One is Dacro coating containing Hexavalent chromium, whieh is formed first by applying a solution consisting of metal zine powder and chromic acid to work uniformly and then by carrying out a baking process, ancl the other is the coating containing no chromium, commonly called as “alternative Dacro", which is formed first by applying a solution consisting of metal zine powder, aluminum powder and organic hinder to work uniformly and then by baking process. 2. Type and codes The type and the code shalll be classified depending on coating weight as shown in Table 1 Table Coating | Thickness of Type | Code weight coating | Application mgicim’2 ef) am. Glass 1] DFZn1 160 or more 4 General parts 3 sont Those parts which require Glase2|DRZin2 200 or more 5 Spevial corrosion resistane Note: Applicable parts shall be as follows; a. Those parts of which corrosion resistance and heat resistance (100 to 250°C) cannot be satistied by electrogalvanizing. b, Those parts which are likely to develop hydrogen embrittlement due to high ength or high hardness. ¢. Those parts which are difficult. o clectrogalva nize, for example, the lonsile s pipes or the parts of complicated configurations Remarks 1, The color of this coating is silver grey. 2. This coated parts shall not be used in the aren around batteries and the area being exposed to exhaust gas as is the case with cloetrogalvaniving, 3. Quality 3.1 External view ‘The coating shall be free from defects harmful to normal use, such as blister, base metal exposure, irregular color and wrinkles of coating. 213 SES D 22049 8.2 Coating weight ‘The result of the test described in section 4.1 shall comply with the requirements specified in Table 1, 2.8 Corrosion resistance ‘The result of the test described in section 4.2 shall comply with the requirements specified in ‘lable 2 except for a screw thread for fastening, Tahle Duration (hours) in whieh formation of red rust Type Code shall not occur _(h) Glass 1 | DFZn1_ | 240 Class 2 | Dirzn? 1500 3.4 Adhesion property The coating shall have no separation from the base metal aflor the test. doscribed in section 4.5. However, slight adhesion of zine powder on the peclod-off tape is acceptable. 4, ‘Test procedure 4.1 Coating weight test This text shall be conducted first. by solving the coating using eaustie soda. Then, the diff measured. The coating weight per unit area can be determined by dividing the thus-obtained differential weight by the surface area of the specimen. A specimen ® of about 50 to 100 g shall be prepared. ‘Ihe weight of the specimen shall be measured down to 0.001g by means of a chemical balancer. nee in weight between before and afler the solution shall be (Mosignate this measurement. result as “AT g) Then, for a poriod of approximately 10 minutes, the specimen shall he immersed in a 20% caustic soda solution which has been preheated to 70 0 80°C in order thal. the coating may be solved completely. The specimen whose coating has been solved completely shall be washed thoroughly using water. Immediately after the washing, the specimen shall he dried quickly. Again the weight of the specimen shall be measured down to 0.001g. (Wdosignate this measurement result as “B” #) The coating weight shall be established using the following calculation formula given below, Ale) Big) Coating weight (mghm?)= ———*@)-Bg) Oe Specimen’ stotal surface areatdn) 1000 Note ® a. Parts weight less than 50 g shall be collectively conducted the test. U. Parts weight 100 g and ever shall be conducted the lest using 3/8 SES D 22049 specimens of less than 100g which were comtexd in parallel with the parts, e. In case, part is impossible to calculate the total surfaes area because of complicated configurations, this coating weight requirement shall be cletermined in accordance with a mutual agreement between the parties concerned to clelivery of the parts 4.2 Corrosion resistanoe test The corrosion resistance lest shall be subject to SES N 3183 (Salt Spray Test ‘Methods for Surface Treatment on Metal-Based Materials). 4.3 Adhesion test ‘The adhesion test shall be conducted in accordance with the cross cut adhesion test specified in section 4.15 of the JIS D 0202 “General Rule of Coating Films of Automobile Parts” Indication of coating ‘Those codes shown in Table 1 shall be used in order to indicate on drawing aad the like, Example of indication’ 6, Interpretation. — Type Primary components of coating (Zn) lass 1) Coating of codes Tn case the provious codes specified in Lhe standard heforg the revision on December 2008 are contwined in drawi DFAnCrt DE Zn x and the Tike, they shall be replaced as follows! = DF%n1 > DRZnz
