(A) INSTALLING AND LAUNCHING THE PROGRAM


Please Note: If you plan to use this program in a computer lab, contact the lab
administrator early.
To begin the Longman Paper program, you must first install Java and QuickTime on
the computer. For Windows and Mac OS X, this is a one-step installation. For ol
der Mac operating systems, please follow the instructions below for installing J
ava, the Longman Paper program, and QuickTime. Read the instructions completely
before proceeding.
Please Note: After you install the program, the CD-ROM must be in the CD-ROM dri
ve when you use the program.
(B) WINDOWS: ONE-STEP INSTALLATION
* Insert the Longman Paper CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. On most computers, the
installation will begin automatically.
* If the installation does not begin, follow these instructions:
- Open My Computer.
- Double-click on the CD-ROM drive icon, the symbol that looks like a CD
.
* Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
* If you do not already have QuickTime, or if you have a version earlier than 6.
0, QuickTime 6.0 will be installed automatically on your computer.
* To launch the Longman Paper program once the installation is complete:
- Click on Start.
- Select Programs.
- Select Longman Paper.
- Click on the Longman Paper icon.

Insert the Longman Paper CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.


Double-click on the Longman Paper CD-ROM icon on the desktop.
Double-click on the Mac OS X folder icon.
Double-click on the Longman Paper CD-ROM Installer icon.
Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are running Mac OS X 10.1, you also need the Java 1.3.1 Upda
te 1. This update is included inside the "Mac OS X" folder on this CD-ROM. To pe
rform this update, follow these steps:
* Double-click on the "Longman Paper CD-ROM" icon on the desktop.
* Double-click on the "Mac OS X" folder.
* Double-click the "Java1.3.1Update1" file, and then follow the instructions on

the screen to complete the update.


(D) MACINTOSH OS 8.6 and 9.x: THREE-STEP INSTALLATION
1. Install Java.

Insert the Longman Paper CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.


Double-click on the Longman Paper CD-ROM icon on the desktop.
Double-click on the Mac OS 8.6 and 9.x folder icon.
Double-click on the MRJ Installer icon.
Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.

2. Install the Longman Paper Program.

Double-click on the Longman Paper CD-ROM Installer icon.
Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.

Double-click on the Longman Paper CD-ROM icon on the desktop.


Double-click on the Mac OS 8.6 and 9.x folder icon.
Double-click on the QuickTime Installer icon.
Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.

To begin the Longman Paper CD-ROM program after completing these three steps, do
uble-click on the red Longman Paper icon on your desktop.
(E) STARTING THE PROGRAM
The first screen of the Longman Paper CD-ROM offers three ways to start the prog
ram:
1. New User - if you have never used the program before.
2. Local User - if you have already used the program on this computer.
3. Disk User - if you have used the program on this computer or on a different c
omputer and have your score data stored on a floppy (data) disk.
(F) USING THE PROGRAM
You can use program this program in two ways.
1. One person on the same computer for each session
For this method, a floppy disk is NOT necessary, and you do not need to do anyth
ing to save your score data when you exit the program. The computer will automat
ically save your scores and your completed questions.
* Start your first session by selecting New User.
* Start each following session by selecting Local User.
* At the end of each session, your data will automatically be saved on the compu
ter.
PLEASE NOTE: Starting a session as a New User or as a Disk User will delete all

previously saved data on the computer.


2. More than one person on the same computer or one person on different compute
rs
A floppy disk is necessary for saving score data if more than one person uses th
e program on the same computer. A person who uses the software on different com
puters will also need a floppy disk for saving data.
* Insert a floppy disk.
* Start your first session by selecting New User.
* Start each following session by selecting Disk User.
* At the Log Out screen, click on the Copy Data button to save your data to the
floppy disk.
(G) SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
WINDOWS:
* 200 MHz or higher processor
* Windows 98, NT 4.0, ME, 2000, or XP
* 64 MB RAM minimum
* Quad-speed CD-ROM drive
* Sound card and speakers
* 25 MB available on hard drive
MACINTOSH:
* Power PC-based Macintosh
* Mac OS 8.6; Mac OS 9.x; or Mac OS X (10.1.3 and higher)
* 64 MB RAM minimum (128 megabytes for Mac OS X)
* Quad-speed CD-ROM drive
* 20 MB available on hard drive (700 KB for Mac OS X)
