UN Resolution 678 recalled and reaffirmed several resolutions pertaining


to Iraqi invasion
Also known as "Desert Shield"
Adopted after other Resolutions did not seem to work

Iraq refused to comply with its obligations to implement Resolution 660


Also wanted to keep international peace and security

On November 29, 1990, the Security Council passed
Resolution 678

Resolution 678 was officially set on January 18, 1991.

Who and Where's of UN Resolution 678


The U.S. Military
- in the gulf region, following the invasion of of Kuait.
Norman Schcurzd was a general at the time
-he drove the Iraqi forces from Kuwait.

Relating to 9/11
Al Qaeda happened to also attack in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Iraq before
9/11 occurred. This being said, with Iraq not withdrawing from Kuwait, UN
Resolution 678 was passed, allowing US air forces to be ready for possible
Iraqi attack on Saudi Arabia. While this was happening, Al Qaeda felt
threatened but also thought of their opportunity to attack in the US, therefore
leading into the attack known as 9/11.
