European Youth Parliament


The European Youth Parliament (EYP) is a unique European educational programme. It offers young people
the opportunity to debate current European issues and experience an intercultural setting.
The EYP is present in 42 European countries and thus connects young people throughout Europe. At the 200
annual Sessions, they experience intercultural debate and active European citizenshiop. They also learn key
skills for their future, such as international teamwork, languages and social skills.

22,000 young people throughout Europe


200 events bring together over 22,000 young people every year. Three times a year, the EYP holds an
International Sessions, where 300 young people meet in different European cities to debate the important
issues of the day. Their resolutions are passed on to key European decision makers.
The International Sessions of the EYP gain a lot of recognition. The proposals for Europes future passed by
the young delegates are considered by many decision makers on the European and national level.
The Presidents of the European Commission and the European Parliament are members of our Comit
dHonneur, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe has granted his patronage to all our activities.

At the heart of EYP are its 42 National Committees in almost all European countries, which are carried by
the voluntary work of young people.
The Schwarzkopf Foundation assumed the role of the international umbrella organisation for this network
in 2004, making the EYP our largest project.

UNIVERSITY OF OTTAWA
Attention all international students: reduced tuition fees for those studying in French
The University of Ottawa is pursuing its efforts to promote the use of French on the world stage. Its most
recent initiative will substantially reduce tuition fees for foreign students who are either Francophones or
Francophiles.
The University is proud to announce that it has adopted a new policy that will waive a portion of the tuition
fees for international undergraduates wishing to study in French, as well as for those who have previously
done so and who wish to undertake graduate studies in French at the University of Ottawa. Beginning in the
2014-2015 academic year, new international students who are eligible for the tuition fee waiver will pay the
same amount as Canadian students, a savings of over $10,000 per year.
The University of Ottawa has decided to make its study programs more international, specifically by
encouraging French-speaking students, fostering cultural diversity and ensuring a balance between official
languages on campus. Our institution is working hard to advance the cause of French language and culture for
current and future generations by promoting post-secondary education and research in French, said the
Right Honourable Michalle Jean, Chancellor of the University of Ottawa.
As stated in the Universitys strategic plan, Destination 20/20, the University hopes to double the number of
international graduate students it attracts, and increase its international undergraduate population by 50% in
the coming years. Not only will the tuition fee waiver attract more international students, it will also
invigorate research activities at the University, thanks to the dual degree and cotutelle programs the
University intends to create with new university partners.

International Parliamentary Scholarships


The German Bundestag collaborates with the Humboldt-Universitt zu Berlin, Freie Universitt Berlin and
Technische Universitt Berlin to run its International Parliamentary Scholarships (IPS) scheme.
This gives well qualified young people with a strong interest in politics from the USA, France, Israel and
Central, Eastern and South Eastern Europe the opportunity to gain first-hand experience of Germany's
system of parliamentary government.
The scheme involves fifteen-week placements with Members of the German Bundestag. The participants
are introduced to the wide variety of tasks carried out in a Members office. For example, they may find
themselves drafting speeches, articles and letters or doing preparatory work for plenary sittings.
The exchange programmes of the German Bundestag are conceived of as exciting ways of teaching young
people about the significance of friendly cooperation based on shared political and cultural values.

The German Bundestag invites you, in cooperation with the with the Humboldt-Universitt zu Berlin, Freie
Universitt Berlin and Technische Universitt Berlin to to apply for an International Parliamentary
Scholarship (IPS) to spend five months in Berlin. The IPS program is aimed at highly qualified young men
and women who are interested in politics and who wish to play an active and responsible role in shaping

people the opportunity to get to know the German parliamentary system and political decision-making
processes and to gain practical experience of parliamentary work during a 15-week work placement with a
Member of the Bundestag. The scholarship-winners are chosen by the German Bundestags independent
selection panel.

ScholarshipPortal.eu: giving students and scholars the


full picture on funding possibilities
Co-funded under LLP Erasmus Accompanying Measures
ScholarshipPortal.eu has just launched their new portal centralising information on
scholarships available to students and scholars in Europe.
With over 25,000 opportunities listed, and some 15.6 billion of scholarships available
annually in Europe, the portal is well on its way to providing a one stop shop for those
looking to spend an academic period abroad.
Like the MEDEA:EU project, ScholarshipPortal.eu also used a mix of communication
tools to promote its website. Press releases played a key role. Joran van Aart, Director
of Student Value at the project, credits much of this success to the multilingual
approach used. Ensuring press material was available in 11 languages resulted in ''
coverage in national and regional newspapers, magazines and university newspapers,
hundreds of blogs and online articles around the world, radio interviews and primetime national television exposure''. Coverage in social and online media, along with
search engine optimisation activities, is having a lasting effect. ....the resulting
increase of incoming links to the Portal is generating a long-term impact as these
websites continue to direct visitors to ScholarshipPortal.eu".
The project took advantage of a major European higher education conference,
attended by a large number of stakeholders to launch the Portal, where they used
''Euro note'' flyers to highlight the enormous value of scholarships availability annually
in Europe.

Scholarships and financial support


Scholarships, grants, bursaries, financial awards, loans there are many financial support options for
international students who wish to study on a UK course.
Here are some tips for you:
On this Education UK website, you can search through thousands of scholarships using the Find
your UK education tool at the top of this page. Choose 'Scholarships' from the menu, then select your
subject area. This tool doesn't list all UK scholarships, but it is an excellent place to start.

Demand for scholarships is always greater than supply. To maximise your chances, apply as early
as you can.

In addition, have a look at the websites for the schools, colleges and universities you are
interested in. They may have a scheme that is not listed here.

There are a number of scholarship schemes run by governments, charities and other
organisations. Ask your Ministry of Education, your local British Council office or your teacher if they
know of any schemes for students in your country. Here are a few global schemes you may want to
have a look at: Chevening UK government scholarships, Commonwealth Scholarships, Erasmus
Scholarships and Royal Society grants.

In 2012, around 33% of pupils at UK independent schools received financial assistance. Visit the
Scholarship Search tool at the Independent Schools Yearbook to get searching.

Depending on your nationality, you may be eligible for a loan or financial support from the UK
government. Visit the UKCISA website for more details.

Postgraduate studentships can be found via a number of websites, including Postgraduate


Studentships and Scholarship Programs.

Evaluating costs
Even with financial support, it is likely that you will have to pay some costs yourself. You may have to
pay for travel, accommodation and part of the course fee yourself. Find out what is and isnt covered
by your scholarship or financial support scheme.
Financial difficulties
The right time to look for financial support is before you enrol on your course. It can be very hard to
find funding, particularly mid-way through the academic year.

The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC) of CyI invites applications for a
Computational Scientist position with expertise in large data management, i.e. data mining and visualization. The

The successful candidate will work at CaSToRC with a main focus on Cultural Heritage related services and research
