Lesson Plan: Special Education Michele Ridout Wednesday 04, 2014 Introduction to Elementary Education Objective: + Fellow class mates will be able to define special education and be able to recognize signs of dis s in their future students. ‘© Classmates will also be able to understand the components of an IEP. * Classmates will have knowledge of the history of special education. Materials: © PowerPoint © YouTube videos © Lesson Plan * Five question test Instructi 1, Teacher: Pass out handouts and quiz (that will be taken at the end of presentation). ‘A. PowerPoint presentation will begin with definition and end with the history of special education. 8. Teacher will go step by step of the components of an IEP. C. Teacher will explain the difference between Mainstreaming and Inclusion. D. Two videos will be shown by the Teacher, “Special Education Timeline” and end with the “Teachers are Advocates.” 2. Student Activity: Student activity will be a five question quiz. At complete of the quiz there will be a discussion time. Closure: Closure of the presentation will be the video “Teachers are Advocates.” With a brief time for classmates to ask questions. Evaluation: Students will be asked to become advocates for their future student when they become a teacher. Students will go over quiz making sure answers are current.
