bstract: The basic parts of wind turbines manufactured from the mid 1980s until
the late 1990s were mainly constructed using standard materials and components. After
that period, the design of some special materials and their application for manufacturing of
the wind turbines started. The main goals of research were to make stronger and persistent
low weight materials with high heat resistance, at lower cost. Nowadays, many wind
turbine manufacturers use composite materials, which are considered as the materials of the
future not only in wind technology. Also, this paper listed chemical compounds whose use
in the process of making components of wind turbines should be avoided because they are
cancerous, toxic etc., like PCB, PCT, Chlorine compounds, various organic compounds,
GHG, asbestos, heavy metals and so on.
Key words: wind turbine, composite materials, blade material
