with students
Put students into their four groups

3) Jolly phonics sheets
4) Reading groups
Have students look for the
word look in their
familiar book
Choose students to read a
page each
Have students predict
what the book might be
about
Talk a little about each
page of the book
Have a student read a
page each
Groups change at about 9:35
Review the basic needs of animals and
people
Have a T chart prepared on the board
with one column titled Chicks and the
other column titled People eat.
Compare the food needs of the student
with the food needs of the chicks (chick
feed)
Ask students what they have noticed
about the amount of food the chicks
eat compared to how much food they
eat.
Model a few sentences for students
- Chicks eat chick feed
- People eat fruit
- People eat vegies
- People eat meat
- Have students go to their desks
and write a sentence. Aim for at
least two sentences
- Have students draw pictures
