Talk Back Assignment
1. Write a paragraph or two that summarize(s) your overall reaction to your peers
comments in light of how you felt your original essay met the goals of the
assignment. Was your primary reaction surprise? Agreement? Something else?
Explain.
A: Before my peers comments, I felt like my essay definitely met the goals of the
assignment. I described my personal literacy story through events and different
situations that impacted me. I also related my personal story with the subjects we
have been talking about in class, such as sponsors and access to literacy. I
expanded my story beyond just being about me, but also about the environment
around me that has contributed to it. The comments from my peers went along the
same lines. They did not mention that it did not relate to the goals of the project,
which was a good sign to me. They mentioned that I had some good examples and
a strong piece, which was what I was hoping for. I took it that my essay was on
the right track.
I agreed with many of the comments they gave, which I will describe in question
three. I was quite pleased with the feedback that I was given from my peers. I
need to work on some of my paragraphs a little bit, but the main objective of the
essay is being portrayed.
2. Write a paragraph or two that summarize(s) your overall reaction to my (your
teachers) comments in light of how you felt your original essay met the goals of
the assignment. Was your primary reaction surprise? Agreement? Something else?
Explain.
A: I previously described how I felt my essay was before the comments, and after
reviewing my teachers comments I still feel confident. I was shocked when I first
opened the document and saw all of the comment bubbles. I felt like my paper
was terrible, but when I read them I realized that they were actually really helpful
and there for extra support. I agree with many of the comments and plan on
adjusting my paper with many of them.
3. Next, for each major revision suggestion, please restate them (in your own words)
and briefly explain either how you plan to incorporate the suggestions into your
revised draft or why you feel a certain suggestion would not serve to improve
your essay. You are also encouraged to note which suggestions you found
most/least clear and helpful. Please note that resisting revision suggestions is
perfectly acceptable as long as you can provide a logical rationale behind your
decision. For example, if you feel a certain decision you madeas iseffectively
fulfills the goals of the assignment and serves your intended audience/purpose,
make sure you explain why. You might discuss your plans or anything that would
hinder you from making these revisions.

A: The first major suggestion I received said in one paragraph I need to elaborate
more on my mothers language. I agree with this statement because I did talk a
little bit more bout my fathers language. I plan to go back and include more
detail on this matter.
The second comment suggested that I explain more about Cremonas My Pen
Writes in Blue and White, which I talk about in my narrative. I completely agree
because although I read it, others may not have and may not really understand
what I am referring to. I plan to go back and describe more on what he talks about
in his piece.
The third major suggestion was that I should think about rearranging my
paragraphs. I agree with this statement because at times the piece can seem a bit
choppy. I plan to either rearrange some paragraphs or transition a little smoother.
The fourth major suggestion was that I should draw more conclusions within my
paper. I agree with this. Many of my examples seemed to be a sort of dead-end
and I didnt think I could go any further with them. I plan on using them to draw
more conclusions about my literacy and to help summarize things.
The fifth major comment said that I should add more detail/examples of writing
styles that were introduced/affected me. I do plan to go back into that paragraph
and add more detail to prove that idea.
