Access to EBSCO Databases

Through the Library Catalog


1. Make sure you are on the Search Tab and Kelowna Secondary is the library you are searching.

2. Enter your search term in the Search Criteria box (ex. Holocaust, photosynthesis, World War 2,
hockey). Changing the Search parameter from keyword to subject (or author or title) may
change the results you get. Click the Search button.

3. The search will give you all the items we have in the library that are related to your search term.

4. If you want to find information related to your topic from online databases you need to click the
Online Tab.

By giving more specific search terms you will get a narrower result. For example, lets say you were
trying to find information about volcanoes in Washington. Instead of just typing in volcanoes (which
results in 12051 in the Canadian Reference Centre database) use the term volcanoes Washington (which
narrows the search to 39 in the Canadian Reference Centre database). This means you will get the
results you are looking for faster without having to go through a lot of information that is not relevant to
for your research.

5. Once you have your result list, just click on the database icon. This will expand the row and show
all the results for that database.

6. You can see the title, authors, publisher and date of publication. To read the information, just
click on the item title.
