What are Limited Quantities?

All materials which meet the criteria of one of the nine
(9) hazard classes are regulated as hazardous materials
for transport.
However, when the amount of certain hazardous
material packed within a package is limited, the
magnitude of the hazard is reduced but not eliminated.
Thus, exceptions can be applied for packaging and
hazard communication including package markings,
labeling, container / vehicle placarding, and
documenting as authorized for certain hazard classes in
specific quantities, in various modes of transport.

What are the Requirements?

Stowage requirement: Category A on deck or under
deck stowage
The provisions for segregation as per IMDG code is not
applicable for packagings containing DG in limited
quantities or in excepted quantities or in relation to
other DG.
No placard indicating the classes of the goods should be
shown instead Limited Quantity placard should be
displayed on the container.

Precautions to be taken when carrying this consignment

of goods.
These DG packed in limited quantities, even not compatible, are
allowed to be stowed together in the same cargo space or
container.
If they are allowed to mix due to damaged or improper packaging
or stowage, adverse chemical reaction will take place.
If the total quantity of the incompatible goods that is allowed to
mix is large, then the consequences can be as harmful as if the
DG is carried in normal quantities where segregation is required.
Therefore, ensure that there is no sign of damaged or leaky
packages or improper lashing and stowage with the DG carried in
limited quantities.

They should, however, be suitabily marked on the exterior as Limited

Quantities

Marking
The mark must be durable, legible, and must be of a

readily visible.
Only one mark is required, however it must be applied
on at least one side or end of the package.
Additionally, the mark must be applied as a square on
point at a 45 angle.

container can be found in:
The detailed information about these goods can be
found in cargo or DG manifest.
The inner packaging quantity limit is specified in column
7 of the DGL.

but shall be marked with the UN number of the contents
(preceded by the letters "UN") placed within a diamond.
The width of line forming the diamond shall be at least 2 mm;
