As I have been mayor for the city of Guyton for 10 years, I have plenty of experience in this occupation, so I know how to run the city both efficiently and effectively, while always keeping my fellow citizens, as well as their desires and necessities, of the upmost importance. I know the dos and donts of this job and I can use this prior knowledge to run the city of Guyton in the best way I can. I do have this advantage, which I believe voters should keep in mind, over my fellow candidate. I have accomplished many things and made a lot of progress for the city in the past decade. For example, I took part in establishing a more proficient city government. Though I have done many things for this great city, there is still so much that should be done to progress the city further and I would try my hardest to see that these things are executed if I served another term as mayor.
More information from challenger Jeff Lariscy:
While I have the utmost respect for Mr. Garvin and his record of service to the city, I feel I offer some fresh perspectives, skills and training that will benefit the city if applied to the office of mayor, Lariscy said. As information technology and media coordinator with the Effingham County school district, I oversee a budget in excess of $1 million annually and work with both administrators and technicians to provide technology resources and media to teachers and students on the largest network in the county. In working in this capacity, I have gained valuable experience in project management and infrastructure issues. As a member of Civil Air Patrol (CAP), I have pursued training as a public affairs officer, public information officer and search and rescue including FEMA courses on incident management. This training is extremely helpful in support and understanding of our public safety departments. Working through additional training to achieve the
grade of captain and serve as commander of
Effingham Cadet Squadron, I have helped provide a great program for our youth; our youth are the most important consideration and should be afforded opportunities to succeed and grow in a safe environment. Integrity, volunteer service, excellence and respect are the core values we teach cadets in CAP; these are also the core values that will drive my campaign and service to the citizens of Guyton.
