Scan attacks exploit facilities offered by scan chain to retrieve embedded secre

t data.
In this thesis it is proposed a solution based on the encryption of the scan-cha
in content.
The main goal of this work is to find a new strategy to counteract the security
threats and, at the same time, to preserve the ability of debugging the circuit.
We suppose that the circuit has a cryptographic element and that it safely store
s a secret key (this secret key being the target of possible attacks).
The novel idea is that we use the same secret key for both the crypto core of th
e circuit and for encrypting the scan chain.
We will resort to a separate encryption core w.r.t. the one that is already pres
ent in the circuit.
This solution does not require designing an additional key management policy, si
nce we re-use the one already implemented for the circuit.
Experimental results will show that we have a little impact on both additional a
rea and test time.
