Guest Preacher Bio

ReV. DR. MiChAeL eRiC DySon

Professor of Sociology at Georgetown University, was

named by Essence magazine as one of the 50 most
inspiring African Americans in the U.S., is also a bestselling author, one of the nations most renowned
public intellectuals, and he has revitalized the title
with the fervor of an ordained Baptist minister.
Called a street fighter in a suit and tie, he takes on
the toughest and most controversial issues of the day, including race, politics and pop
culture, with his fearless and fiery rhetoric. An MSNBC political analyst and former host of
NPR's The Michael Eric Dyson Show, Dyson is also an award-winning author.

His speeches and books both provide some of the most significant commentary on modern
social and intellectual thought today, interwoven with a combination of cultural criticism,
race theory, religion, philosophical reflection, and gender studies. Dyson is a speaker
who will never bore audiences; his presentations are thought-provoking, unwavering and
foster social change. His excitement on the topics he speaks onracial profiling and its
impact on black America, the sociology of hip hop, and Dr. King for the 21st Century,
among othersis contagious.
Dr. Dyson bridges gaps between generations, connecting civil rights identity to hip-hop
culture, while forging links between older and younger Americans, especially black
Americans. As a cutting edge historian, he educates the general public on the significance
of hip hop, not only in understanding the black community, but general American culture,
as well. With his powerful voice, Dyson reaches beyond race, addressing the universal
commonality of American concern.

2nd Floor Narthex
OPENING RECEPTION AND
ARTIST DISCUSSION
Sunday, October 18, 2015
2:30 p.m. 4:30 p.m.
This exhibit takes us into the working studio - the streets of Chicago - of Jesse Howard, nationally-renowned Chicagobased artist and winner of the 2015 Jurors Award at the Wright Museum of Beloit. Jesses work shows the gritty underside
of Chicagos disenfranchised men, women, and children, many of them of color, and captures how their very existence
puts into stark relief the hypocrisy of our national society, made personal here in Chicago.

About the 20th Annual Chicago Artists Month (CAM) - October 1 - November 15, 2015:

CAM is an initiative of the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, showcasing the work of
Chicagos independent artists and arts organizations. As a platform for independently-produced events and programs
in all disciplines, CAM highlights creative activity in Chicago neighborhoods; encourages tourism and small business
development; fosters collaboration and opportunities for creative expression and learning.

CAM 2015 prioritizes:

Experimental, innovative projects demonstrating a strong and original artistic/creative

vision
New work (however, submissions will be accepted for both new and existing projects)
Projects seeking to increase public access to and participation in high-quality arts
activities/events (especially underrepresented populations
Collaboration (between neighborhoods, genres, demographically, or other)

Wave the Win Flag!
Sports are often times metaphors of life. There is
no greater example than the Northside baseball
team experiencing huge, unexpected success as
part of its major rebuilding program designed to
one day compete and win that elusive World Series
Championship, a feat not seen since 1908.

Earlier this year, you may recall the Endeleo Institute honored
the first African American Vice-President of Communications
for the Chicago Cubs, Mr. Julian Green. Julian was the keynote
speaker at our Historically Black College Fair Reception. As an
Alabama A & M University graduate, he humbly reminisced
about all those who helped him along the way and the
shoulders on which he now stands.
It is quite gratifying to see an African American man matriculate and graduate from one
of our HBCUs. It is the reason Endeleo works tirelessly to expose young people, who
otherwise would not have the opportunity, to historic campuses and interaction with
students that look like them. They learn a college education is, by all means, possible for
them as well. This is why we do what we do.
Life lesson: Play the game the right way and good things will happen.
Huge congratulations to Julian and Cubs Nation!

Endeleo is Progress, Growth and Development
