Modalities of Learning

The traditional form of learning has changed over the years. Instead of only face to face
classes, people might select online or hybrid learning. It depends on their needs because each
modality has its advantages and disadvantages.
First of all, online education is favorable for the students because they can get access to
the internet, thus they might join the classes easily. According to my classmate Wenxin with
online classes students can save time. They also can study from the comfort of their home and
they can repeat something many times if they miss it. On the other hand, online learning has
negative aspects. To begin with, students cannot ask questions immediately. They also cannot
have interaction with others because they communicate through e-mail, chats etc. Furthermore,
the students cannot be focused due to many distractions in their study place. I suggest the
students have to find a place where they can study in calm, and make an effort and determine if
they have the ability to focus no matter the distractions around them.
Second, Face to face classes are beneficial because students will interact in class with
teachers and other students. Therefore, if they dont understand something they might ask
questions and share important information. For instance, I attended a lecture called Gender and

the Future of Genocide Studies by Dr. Von Joeden-Forgey. The students were focused at the
conference and they took notes, so they improved their writing quality. However, in face-to-face
classes the students have some disadvantages such as they may feel limited in one space.
Consequently; the class becomes boring and monotonous.
Third, hybrid education could have some benefits for students. One common benefit is
the students can reorganize their schedule. In this manner, they can choose part of the classes on
campus and the other classes online. Another advantage is they may develop their skills in
technology and expand their knowledge outside of the traditional classroom. Finally, hybrid
learning is a strategy to keep the students from making excuses for being unable to attend
classes.
In conclusion, each type of education has pro and cons. In my opinion hybrid learning is
the best method for the students because it has a mixture of both, so it helps student to develop
many abilities.
