The American Dream

You see, I have this beautiful new house
and this shiny new car.

Thats a Benz.
You have to work your way up pal.

You see, I have a job to pay for all this.
I work 60 hours a week, every week, all year.
2 weeks vacation.

Last year I went to Florida.

I stayed on call.

You see, its worth it though.
The stress, the boredom, the deadlines.

Im saving for retirement.

One more coffee, one more cigarette, one more drink,
and a handful of prescriptions to even it out.
You see, these ones help me fly
and these ones help me fall.

This is the American dream.

Poetry
Oh how the wind blows across the willows.
The years have passed me and I have yet to see
The midnight sun falls on the dawn of contempt.
Nearly, in the distance the horses draw closer
and on the eve of that reckoning,
I felt a close.
Yet the dew drops on the lilies shine in the morning sun,
A sign perhaps?
The paleness of your eyes have yet to say a word,
but the breaking of your heart signals to the world.
Oh how the waves crash upon the shore,
Sadness,
sadness,
sadness...
