Prerequisites: RCC, minimum GPA 2.50, completion of at least 29 credit hours

Externship placement is in The City of Cleveland Department of Law. The City of


Cleveland seeks law students for the spring 2008 term to assist with City of Cleveland v.
Deutsche Bank Trust Company, et al., Case No. 1:08CV139 in the Federal District Court
for the Northern District of Ohio. This public-nuisance litigation involves the harmful
effects of financing practices in the mortgage industry. There may be a possibility that
The City of Cleveland will need assistance in future semesters on this project.

The position provides a unique and unforgettable opportunity to gain valuable work
experience in a first-rate public law firm that has produced a U.S. Supreme Court Justice
and a federal cabinet secretary among other distinguished alumni. It is also a chance to
assist attorneys who represent the City of Cleveland in this litigation. Externing for the
82+ lawyer Department of Law offers broad exposure to the legal profession in an
environment widely renowned for its challenge, excellence, creativity, integrity, and
decency.

The externs assisting with this litigation will research and draft legal memoranda, review
documents produced in discovery, attend litigation-strategy sessions, and perform other
tasks as needed.

Students may register for 4 credits (16 hours per week) or 6 credits (24 hours per week)
in the spring. Students in this externship also participate in an Externship Seminar
conducted at the law school by the externship faculty supervisor. Graded Pass/Fail.

must be a U.S. citizen for this externship. Students must sign a Release of Academic
Information Form. Please submit a cover letter, including all relevant courses that you
have taken, a resume and writing sample. The supervising staff at the The City of
Cleveland Department of Law will make the final selection of students.
