Subject: Fluid Power & Control
Time: Three hours Full Marks: 100
Question 7 is compulsory, and answer anv two questions from each of groups A and B.
Differemt parts of the same question should be answered together.
Group A
1. (a) Starting from a prime mover show through a schematic diagram, how power is
being ansmined in a Myid power systen tw chive a luad. Identify the different
components, power forms and variables invalved in the transmission process.
(6) Describe the operating principle of a pilot operated pressure relief valve.
(d) Compare between different Pressure Relief Valves in terms of pressure override
characteristics

2. (a) Briefly explain how the displacement of the swash plete type axial piston pump ean
be made variable?
(b) It is required for a typical application to supply controlled flow to the actuator
independent of the loading condition of the actuator. Suggest an appropriate
control valve that will serve this purpose and describe its functioning with the help
ofa schematic diagram.
(c) Show the symbolic representations of upen, close and tandem cenue 3-way 4
position DCVs.

3. (a) Draw and label the different components of a typical sequence circuit where
sequencing is done between two actuators A and B. During the exiension stroke
actuator A is first extended followed by actuator B. During the retraction stroke.
actuator B is first retracted followed by actuator A.
(b) Classify intensifiers through their respective symbols.
(c) Consider a 40 min bore diameter and 15 mm rod diameter asymmetric actuator with
0.2 Vs supply at 10.0 MPa pressure, Find all possible normal and regenerative
speeds in both directions, and normal and regenerative thrusts available at the
actuator during the extension stroke, Take the tank pressure to be atmospheric.

load pressive at different normalized spool displacement for 9 critically lapped
spool valve. Show the characteristics curves.
