Cilla the Musical (LX Design)

During our 10-minute production of Cilla there will be a

general lighting state throughout. We will be setting our
particular chosen scene to be on the set of Cillas famous
show Blind Date. The general LX state we will have is
bright with the moving MAC and Fresnel lights giving a sense
of romance with pinks, reds and some blues bleeding onto
the stage. This runs true to the more contemporary version
of the show that Cilla did as the set changed many times
over the 373 episodes she did over the years.

As the female suitors come out there will be a lighting

change to create an excitement, moving lights, flashes and
smoke as we see them enter from DSL to approach their
stools. Once theyre in their seats we will then have a bright
shade of red MAC 700 profile light for each individual stool so
the girls are all individually lit during the 10-minute scene.
Throughout all of this the general lighting state will dim
slightly to enhance the action that we are focusing but once
in their stools we bring the lighting up again. As our
protagonist playing Cilla interviews them we will leave the
lighting as is.
Our bachelor then comes out with his showgirls to escort
him. There will be a party of lights moving, flashing, created
by the lights front of house (FOH), from the flies and from
side stage. MAC Viper profile, MAC 700 profile and the Robert
Juliat lights will all give us the desired party atmosphere. He
will also have a spotlight on him throughout as he is the
vocal point of the scene, as will Cilla as she is our leading
lady. As our bachelor takes his seat and his suitors etc. have
answered questions running true to the regular format of the
show we approach decision time. Our intended emotion we

want to portray at this point is suspense and to achieve this

we will tighten the spot on our bachelor and the profile lights
on the ladies to create an all eyes are on them effect. We will
also dim the lights right down and scroll the Fresnel lights
and Robert Juliat 613 SXs to a purple and deeper red to
enhance the severity of his decision-making.
Once the decision is made we will return to the party
atmosphere which we introduced when both parties were
entering. As we see the happy couple exit USR up the stairs
they will both be in a singular spotlight. Once theyve left we
will have blackout and Cilla will exit SR as the lights are
down.
