Systematic Observation Report Week 4
The lesson on Wednesday Oct 21s was taught by Mrs. Latoya to
the 4th and 5th graders of tiger pride. There were a total of 20 students
who participated and the lesson focus was on soccer. The equipment
used was soccer balls and poly spots. The previously learned skills
were dynamic and static stretching, special awareness, heart rate
awareness, dribbling, and passing. The lesson took place on the grass
field.
The first observation that I completed was SOFIT. The first three
minutes was pure instruction and zero MVPA. The whole 30-minute
lesson on soccer included a total of 900 seconds of MVPA out of the
total 1800 seconds in the time frame. The implications of my findings
are that Latoya did a good job keeping her students moving and being
active. There seemed to be a lot of direction giving and that time could
have been utilized better. My findings also showed that there were
some chunks of time with no activity. These were the times when Mrs.
Latoya would try to lecture the kids on soccer and inform them on what
they were doing wrong.
One thing Latoya could of done better to improve the kids
performance of passing would have been to have one of her ETs help
out with the demonstration of the pass so she could have been walking
around helping kids. I noticed when her back was to the kids

occasionally they drifted off. One other thing Latoya could have done
to enhance the soccer lesson would have been to have a bigger tone.
The kids could not really hear all too well which affected their passing.
The second observation I had was Idiosyncrasies

and I

noticed Latoya said ok and alright multiple times during her lesson.
She could use other words in place of alright and ok so its not so
repetitive when she talks. Another strategy Latoya could of
implemented would have been to go through one movement at a time
instead of trying to go through multiple at a time. This would of given
the students more time to adjust and get use to the cots. It would have
also been better because the kids would have comprehended the cots
of passing better.
