Interpretation of stanza #3
The White Mans Burden by Rudyard Kipling
Take up the White Man's burden
The savage wars of peace
Fill full the mouth of Famine
And bid the sickness cease;
And when your goal is nearest
The end for others sought,
Watch sloth and heathen Folly
Bring all your hopes to nought.
Vocabulary.
Sought: Past and past participle of seek.
Folly: Lack of good sense; foolishness.
Famine: A famine is a widespread scarcity of food, caused
by several factors including crop failure, population
unbalance, or government policies.
Burden: A load, especially a heavy one.
Nought: Nothing,zero-.
Sloth: reluctance to work or make an effort; laziness.

Interpretation.
What this stanza states is that the americans should take
the load that was supposed to be for the Spanish and fight
against hunger and diseases in search for peace, but
when the goal is near them, they will have obstacles that
will probably foolish them and bring their goals to nothing,
which will ruin their hopes
