Lesson one-Reflection
According to Kagans Cooperative Learning text book there are many benefits to using
cooperative learning. For example it gives immediate and frequent reinforcement, and has
powerful rewards (processed-based, equal reward opportunity). One of the main focuses we have
while talking about cooperative learning is how it differs from group work. One big difference is
how cooperative learning holds each student accountable by assigning each student a role within
the group
Seven critical factors are key concepts used for successful cooperative learning. The
seven key concepts are structure, teams, management, class building, team building, social skills,
and basic principles. The description of these concepts range from how to use cooperative
learning instructional strategies to how to create a caring, cooperative community of learners to
how to develop students ability to cooperate, and how to use the proven principles of
cooperative learning. One main principle I noticed in my part of the lesson was equal
participation. Each group had to come up with the question together and then answer as a class
each of the other groups questions. The other three principles were lacking possibly because of
the time that we had in class. I think if there was just a bit more time, then maybe another
principle would have made it through the process.
