DEFINITION
Nummular eczema is an idiopathic inflammatory skin disease
that is characterised by multiple coin-shaped eczematous
lesions which is papules and papulovesicles coalesce to
form nummular palques with oozing, crust, and scale.
Epidemiology
Predominantly a disease of adulthood. Men
ar more frequently affected then woman
The peak insidence in both males and
females is around 50-65 years of age
Rare in infancy and chilhood, the peak age
of onset in chilhood is 5 years
Etiology
The cause of nummular eczema is unknown.
Many factors have been proposed as aetiological
factors.
The internal factors are dry skin, emotional stress,
stasis and the manifestation of atopic dermatitis in
children
The external factors may also play a role such as
auto-eczematisation from allergens or
Staphylococcus, seasonal variation, alcoholl
