RESPIRATION IN ORGANISM
Respiration is the process by which oxygen
is taken in and gives out carbon dioxide
It involves inspiration and expiration
The structure of respiratory organs and the
process become more complex as the
complexity in the structure of organisms
increases

AMOEBA

Amoeba does not possess specific

respiratory organs .The cell
membrane act as the respiratory
surface through which oxygen
enters and carbon dioxide leaves
out the body

EARTHWORM
Skin is the respiratory organ of the
earthworm which contains many
blood capillaries. Oxygen diffuses
into the blood and carbon dioxide
from blood diffuses out through moist
skin. Hemoglobin is contained in the
plasma

COCKROACH

The respiratory organ of the cockroach is

a network of tubules spread all over the
body and is known as trachea ,which
opens to the outside through openings
called spiracles. Oxygen and carbon
dioxide diffuses directly in and out of the
tissues. Blood does not play any role in
the process of gas exchange.

SCROPION

Book lungs are the respiratory organ of

the scorpion and resembles a half
opened book. They are seen towards
the posterior end of the abdominal
cavity. Oxygen from air enters through
the openings and dissolves into the
body fluid and carbon dioxide is
expelled from the body fluid

FISH

Gills are the respiratory organ of fish

which are rich in capillaries. Oxygen
from water flows over gills diffuses
into the blood and carbondioxide
diffuses into the water.

FROG

Frogs are amphibian which can

breathe in both air and water. Moist
skin, buccal cavity and lungs are the
respiratory organs of frog. But
tadpoles ,the larvae of frog breathe
through gills
