Aplasia in hematology, a failure of the normal process of cell generation and development
Disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC) acquired hemorrhage syndrome of clotting, cascade
overstimulation, and anticlotting processes
Erthrocytosis abnormal increase in the number of circulating RBCs
Erthropoiesis the process of RBC production
Hemarthrosis bleeding into a joint space, a hallmark of severe disease ususally occuring in the knees, ankles
and elbows
Hemophilia A hereditary coagulation disorder; caused by a lack of antihemophillic factor VII, which is needed
to convert prothromin to thrombin thru thromboplastin component
Heterozygous having two different genes
Homozygous having two identical genes, inherited from each parent, for a given hereditary characteristic
Idiopathic cause unknown
Leukemia malignant disorder of the hematopoietic system in which an excess of leukocytes accumulates in
the bone marrow and lymph nodes
Leukopenia an abnormal decrease in the number of WBCs to fewer than 5000 cells/mm due to depression of
the bone marrow

edema
Multiple myeloma a malignant neoplastic immunodeficiency disease of the bone marrow; the tumor is
composed of plasma cells
Myeloproliferative excessive bone marrow production
Pancytopenia deficient condition of all three blood elements (red cells, white cells and platelets); results from
the bone marrow being reduced or absent
Pernicious capable of causing great injury or destruction; deadly, fatal
Reed-Sternberg cells atypical histocytes; large, abnormal, multinucleated cells in the lymphatic system, found
in Hodkins lymphoma
