Initiation

I will read the book The Day The Crayons Quit to

the class and discuss the different aspects of
writing a letter and why people write letters. I will
put emphasis on the fact that many people write

Differentiation

letters because they want to let someone know

how much of a good friend they are or to thank
them for being a good friend. They will include
details and examples to support their letters.

Development

Closure

1. Students will choose one friend to write to

in the class to tell them why he or she is a
good friend.
2. Students will collaborate in groups of 3 or
4 to help each other come up with ideas for
their letter.
3. Once they have a rough draft, they will all
go to Padlet and write their letters to one
another. This will allow the entire class to
see all of the letters in one place!

We will discuss the different reasons students had
for why they have such great friends. Students will
have the chance to evaluate themselves after
reading the letters of their classmates and I will
evaluate the students based on how well they
worked together and their letters on Padlet.

Students can be
paired up to write
letters to each
other this way
there is no one
child without a
letter.
