Megan worked at Escuela Americana, Lower School, from ‘August 2012 to June 2015 as a fourth grade teacher. As Director of the Lower School, | was very pleased with Megan's performance in the classroom, her willingness to share best practices with her colleagues, her presentations to her grade level team in regards to Reading, and as a colleague and team member among other things. Planning and Preparation: Megan displayed solid content knowledge in the subjects she taught - Language Arts, Reading, Science, Social Studies, and Math. She displayed knowledge of students’ skils and knowledge of each student's needs, including those with special needs. All of Megan's academic goals and objectives were clear and allowed for diferent methods of assessment. Her lesson plans were well-organized, easy to read and easy to follow. Megan made use of the school resources and was continually searching her personal “tool bag" for new ideas. Learning activities in Megan's classes were suitable to students and to instructional goals. Most ‘materials and resources she used, including the use of technology, engaged students in meaningful leaming. Assessment criteria and expectations were clear and were communicated to the students Classroom Environment: Student interactions in Megan's class were polite and respectful. Tasks for group work were organized and ‘groups were managed so most students were engaged at al times. Efficient systems for performing non-instructional duties were in place, resulting in minimal oss of instructional time. Instruction: Megan's directions and procedures were clear to students. Her spoken and written language was clear and correct, Vocabulary was appropriate to students’ age and interests. Megan used best practices to engage her students in learning in fun ways. She ulized technology- document camera, iPads, Skype, and WebQuest to further students’ learning in a more interactive way. Feedback was consistently provided in a timely manner. Megan persisted in seeking approaches for students who had difficulty learning, requesting the help of our Learning Support staff as well as our Guidance Counselor when needed Professional Responsibility: Megan's system for maintaining information on student progress in learning was effective and ‘communicated to the parents during Parent-Teacher conferences and during the school year, as needed. She provided frequent information to parents about the instructional program, weekly goals as well as her special activities through her weekly newsletter. ‘Support, collaboration, and cooperation characterized Megan’s relationships with colleagues. Megan was a very dedicated teacher and if need be, she stayed beyond school hours to plan her lessons, communicate with her parents, and to give extra help to her students. |urther commend Megan for her efforts in the following: Representing the fourth grade in the area of Reading Creating a Reading Profile and Reading Binder Creating Reading mini lessons for explic instruction in reading strategies and writing skills Using MAP assessment results to create flexible groups for reading, language arts, and math Reading Lab Coordinator ~ reading support to 4” and 5" grade students after school hours Using semester standards-based math profile for re teaching topics to individual students and to small groups of students Incorporating inquiry-based science projects and experiments to practice the scientific method Ongoing professional development activities — completed a Master's program with Framingham State University; currently ‘working on Reading Specialist endorsement with Drake University KKK 5455 ea — Cine fisina Lima Lower Schoo!
