TATAMI MAT

Tatami Mat is a type of mat used as a flooring material in


traditional Japanese-style rooms. The top surface is made of
woven straw. Tatami are individual mats. They have a uniform
size and shape. They have borders of brocade or plain cloth.
The Japanese now opting for more and more tatami rooms in
their homes. The tatami mats are spread as flooring inside the
room and as seating arrangements. These rooms are then
used for entertaining guests. The owner of the house and the
guests will be sitting upright on a tatami and bowing to greet
one another. This will be followed by having small tea
ceremonies.
