Sensidyne now offers a standard-sized, NIOSH-style coconut shell activated charcoal tube that meets NIOSH specifications for 150 mg. coconut shell charcoal
tubes (Type 20/40 mesh, 50/100 mg). Each tube measures 6 mm (0.24) O.D. by
70 mm (2.76) long and contains a 100 mg. section backed by a 50 mg. section
of specially prepared charcoal.
The tubes have been tested by AIHA-accredited Clayton Laboratory Services of Novi, Michigan. Testing followed NIOSH
method 1501 for toluene. Tube shelf life is 5 years from date of manufacture. A summary report is available upon request.
Both NIOSH and OSHA specify activated charcoal tubes in the collection of personal samples for hydrocarbon solvents such
as benzene, toluene and xylene; for alcohols such as methanol and isopropyl alcohol; for ketones such as MEK and MIBK
and for chlorinated solvents like methylene chloride, trichloroethylene, chloroform or 1,1,1-trichoroethane. The Gilian
LFS-113 sampling pump or GilAir series sampling pumps (with low flow modules) can be used to collect samples. A full line
of tube holders is available for both single and multi-tube sampling. Tubes are available in packs of 50 with volume discounts
