The production of floriculture and retailing of flowering plants provides students with hands-on

experience in the most common aspects of floral design, sales, and merchandising. My students
will grow pink, red, and white carnations with the intent to sell them to fellow high school
students during valentines. The students will be expected to manage operations, care for floral
inventory, and prepare the flower arrangements for final sales.
Two weeks prior to the carnation sale, flyers will be placed around the school. The week before
the sale, announcements will be made over intercom on a daily basis reminding potential
customers of the upcoming sale. Sale for the carnations will begin on February 11th and end on
February 17th. A booth will be set up in the cafeteria before class, during lunches, and after the
final bell. During this time, customers will be able to this FFA member run booth to select and
purchase the floral arrangement. After purchase the floral arrangement will be delivered to the
customers valentine during classes.
The booth will have an example of each floral arrangement for consumers to view. There will
also be a large poster board with the table below that describes the types of arrangements and the
prices for the different variations. With the exception of the single flower, all arrangements will
come with the option of color variations and can come in either a vase or hand tied with a ribbon.
