Location / Setting
Students begin lesson in their normal theory
classroom
Then proceed to the schools gymnasium

Special Considerations
Students will already know how to calculate
performance variables from last lesson
They will need to be taught how to create both a
training program, and how to set goals.
Class we are combining with is an EAL class- These
Students may be at a very low level so Explain phase
in e5 pedagogy will need to be structured.

The class then goes back to the classroom to teach

the EAL class.

Organisation / Student Groups

Entire class seated in rows to begin lesson
Students are than in the gym training and
using the application, constant supervision
required and students are told to work in
groups of four for training to spot, and video
their sets.
Once back in the classroom, students then
group tables and pair up with an EAL student
and begin to teach them around performance
measure variables and the iron path
application.

Focus Questions
Can students use the iron path in a real
situation properly and effectively to be used
as a reference point for their assignment?
Can students set goals and create a training
program for themselves for a four week
period?
Can students teach and communicate
effectively with other students from another
class?

Introduction and Overview for this Lesson: this lesson will take place in both their normal theory classroom, but also in the schools gymnasium as an alternative learning
space. During the lesson, students will be educated and refreshed on the principles of training, via a power point showing how to create a training program, and how to set
goals in line with the SMARTER principle. This lesson will then provide an intercultural focus, via the inclusion of the EAL class students into our lesson, where they will be
taught by the PE students not only about the Iron Path application, but also how to manually calculate the performance variables such as sped, power, force and acceleration.
This class will have students from other cultural backgrounds as English is their second language. This will require students from the PE class to take on some responsibility for
the EAL students learning and must use their communication skills to impart knowledge they have learnt.
Students will complete testing of the iron path application in the second part of the lesson where they can see for themselves how it can relate and give them a reference tool to
monitor improvement for their training program assignment. To finish the lesson, students will complete a formative assessment via completing an individual survey on todays
lesson, which will give the teacher the opportunity to have their own performance reviewed and indicate the quality of the lesson delivery.

Activity / Phase of the Lesson

Organisation
Engage Phase- Collaborative learning
Students raise hand and answer
activity- brainstorming (5-15 mins)
questions and are prompted for
Students are asked to explain the
more information to access prior
principles of training and if they
knowledge
can remember how they relate to
training programs.
Students shown power point to
refresh memory on prior
knowledge. Plus how to set
goals.
Explore Phase- Iron Path
activity(25mins)
students then go into the
gymnasium and trail the iron path
application with exercises that
they want to complete as part of
their training program.

Explain Phase- Teacher to show

students how to teach students from the
EAL class and what to do(15 mins)
Teacher instructs students back
into classroom and asks students
what they liked and what they
thought of the application and its
implications for their assignment.
Students then are told to teach
students from the EAL class
about how they manually
calculate performance variables
that they learnt yesterday, and
also how the Iron Path
application works

Teaching Cues
Standing up the front the teacher
writs the answers the students
give on the board.
Asking questions to access prior
knowledge

Students in groups of 4 to enable

spotting of exercises and videos
to be taken
Constant supervision and
circulation from the teacher for
safety reasons.

students are seated in the

classrooms with tables together
to form circles in order to pair up
easily with EAL Students.

and reps of exercises to see if
there is improvement.

Elaborate Phase- Students working with

EAL students(20-30mins)
students from the EAL class are
introduced into the classroom
and are paired up with a PE
student
PE students show EAL students
the Iron path application and how
to manually calculate
performance variables they learnt
yesterday.
Students then take EAL students
into the gym and show them
exactly how the application
works.
Evaluate Phase- Formative assessment /
Reflection
Students in this phase to
complete a survey provided by
the teacher
Students to complete survey
individually

Students are paired up but

encouraged to work in groups of
4, for the practical side of the
session.
Students safety is supervised
between the gym and classroom.

Collect surveys at the end of the

lesson

Teacher to be providing
assistance to all students in
teaching and communicating
Teacher circulates between the
classroom and gym- which are
right next to each other in this
setting.
