    InSeptemberof2012theUnitedNationsdecidedtostartthefiveyearGlobal
    EducationFirstInitiative.Thethreegoalsofthisinitiativearetoputeverychildin
    school,improvethequalityoflearning,andfosterglobalcitizenship.By2017theplanis
    tomakesurethatallcountriesaroundtheworldareonboardwiththisinitiative.Inthe
    Bahamas,theeducationsystemismakingitswaytothisgoalslowlybutsurely.The
    governmenttheredoesagreatjobofmakingsurethattheeducationsystemofthe
    Bahamasimprovingineveryway.
    AfterresearchingmoreaboutthewaysthattheBahamashasimprovedtheir
    educationsystemIhavefoundthatthecountryasawholeisonthewayupintermsof
    educationalplanning,goals,andchildrenseducationalstatus.

    Thisgraphtakenin2010showstheannualprimary
    schoolenrollmentinTheBahamas.

    Asyoucanseebythefigureabove,therateofchildrenenrolledinprimaryschool
    beforetheGEFIwasdecreasing.AccrodingtotheEducationDatabase,TheBahamashas
    increasedtheirgovernmentspendingtomakeitsothat20%ofallgovernmentfunding.
    Withthatincreasehasalsocomeintheincreaseofchildrenenrolledinprimaryschool.
    Whenchildrenmoveontosecondaryschooltherateisconstantandhasbeenforyears.
    WiththeadditionoftheGEFItheratehasincreasedaswell,meaningmorechildrenare
    inandstayinginschool.
    Oncethechildrengettotheageoftertiaryschool,theyhaveseveralopportunites
    throughouttheCaribbeanislands.AccordingtotheEducationDatabase,themost
    commonsubjectsstudiedintertiaryschoolarenursingandhospitalityandhotel
    management.Aswellasgoingstraightintotertiaryschool,theislandslaunchedaplanin
    2007toimprovethevocationaleducationsystem.Goingthisrouteofeducationallows
    thestudenttobecomecertifiedquickerandallowsthemtoexploredifferentcareerpaths
    thatarenotavailableinthelocalschools.
    TheBahamasasawholehavebeenworkingtoimprovetheireducationsystem
    andthelevelofeducationthestudentsaregetting.Inthepast5yearstheyhaveputmore
    timeandmoneyintotheireducationpracticesandthatefforthasdefinitelybeenevident
    whenyoulookathowtheenrollmentandotheropportunitiesthatthecountrynow
    providesthestudnets,impactsthequalityofeducation.
