purpose.Personaistheworldseverydayusage,isasocialroleoracharacterplayedbyan
actor.AudienceisthegroupofpeopletheAuthorisaimingfor,andFormatisthewaythestory
istold.Thepersonalformat,audienceandpurposeoftheWaroftheWorldsisverydifferent
betweenthebookandtheradiobroadcast.
TheWaroftheWorlds
bookbyH.G.WellsisabookaboutaliensfromMarstakingover
Earth.Thealiensneedhumanbloodtosurviveandtheyarearrivinginthethousands.The
personaofthestorywasveryfictional,andismeanttobesatdownandtobeenjoyed.Thestory
makesyouquestionthepossibilityoflifeondifferentplanets.Theformatisanovelthatuses
verydescriptivewordsalmostshowinghowthealiensareshootingfromouterspaceand
invadinghomesastheykillinnocenthumans.

Lastly,purposeofthestructurechangebetweenthebookandtheradiobroadcastwasto
bedifferent.OrsonWelleswantedthebroadcasttodosomethingthathasneverbeendoneand
hedid.Theaudiencewasimpactedgreatlybecausetheythoughttheywerelisteningtothebook
untilrandominterruptionsmeperiodicsilenceswerehappening.Theaudiencedidnotknow
whatwasgoing,theradiowastheonlycommunicationdeviceatthetimesotheycouldnot
verifyiftheinvasionwasrealornot.Thisbroadcasttoyedwithpeople'semotionsandthere
trusttotheradio.
Theformat,personaandpurposeofthebookandradiobroadcastofWaroftheWorlds
aredifferent.Thebookisfictionisjustforentertainmentwhilethebroadcastwasveryserious
puttingcitizensinpanicthinkingalienswerereallycomingtoEarth.Theaudienceforthebook
andradiobroadcastwastargetingpeoplewholikeactionandsciencefictionaltext.Butthe
broadcastscaredmorepeoplethanitentertained.
