Quarter 1 Reflection:
Class Assignment

To begin the reflection I will start with a short and summarized story,
There once was a scorpion who wanted to go on a journey but in order to do that he needed to cross the
river. He spotted a frog and asked him to take him across the river.
The frog replied, How do I know that if I try to help you, you wont try to kill me?" The scorpion said,
Because," the scorpion replied, "If I try to kill you, then I would die too, for you see I cannot swim!"
Then the frog thought about it, still suspicious he asked "Alright then...how do I know you wont just wait
till we get to the other side and THEN kill me?" said the frog. "Ahh...," crooned the scorpion,
"Because you see, once you've taken me to the other side of this river, I will be so grateful for your help,
that it would hardly be fair to reward you with death, now would it?!"
The frog ultimately agreed to take the scorpion across and be awesome but halfway across the river, the
frog suddenly felt a sharp sting in his back and, out of the corner of his eye, saw the scorpion remove his
stinger from the his back. A deadening numbness began to creep into his limbs
"You fool!" croaked the frog, "Now we shall both die! Why on earth did you do that? "The scorpion
shrugged, and did a little twitch on the drowning frog's back.
"I could not help myself. It is my nature." The Scorpion replied. Then they both sank and died.
My name is Ramatoulaye Ndiaye. I am a Black Senegalese, Muslim, young lady who is a civil
rights activist and potential future blogger and innovator. I am from my mothers womb but I was born in
Morrow, Georgia. Although (since I believe in re-incarnation) I am also from Ancient Senegal as well (but
thats a different story). I am from two lives of struggling single parents who each have separate kids
aside from the three (including myself) they had together. I am from heartbreak and many good times for
that. My past experiences are too much to tell in this tale so I will reflect them from the story above.
The story above of the Scorpion and the Frog is there for a reason and not just for the words. I, as
a human being, look to this story because it not only reflects how backstabbing is portrayed in daily life
but it reflects in my life since being stabbed in the back has happened several times in my past. In the
story I like to see myself as the frog who helped the scorpion across the river. Many times in my life I
have always tried to be the helping hand towards anyone who needed me, but in the end, like the frog, I
was used by the scorpions and died. This story is my past experiences and it has shaped who I am to
today, a strong, black powered woman.
