Luke 17:26-37
Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. People
were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the
ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all...
YOUR LIFE'S WORTH
Life is meant to be lived. But how? Some people say tomorrow is uncertain so better to just
eat, drink, and be merry. Others tell us to earn as much money as possible to be happy. At the
same time, some also believe that love is only good while it lasts; thus, when they are no
longer happy, they leave the relationship, and find a replacement. In this world, life is only
seen up front and treated at face value. We have become too preoccupied with temporary
things that we have forgotten what life is really about.
Luke reminds us that at the end of time, we will leave behind things that gave us life in this
world: our material possessions, means, and pleasures. We can't stay behind, grabbing onto
these things. The only thing that will remain is our life in God.
When our third son was born prematurely, we were reminded of how precious life was. We
learned that life was more valuable than all the wealth in this world, and that life is Gods
most beautiful gift to us more than luxury, power or fame.
Todays Gospel invites us to live our life meaningfully, never forgetting that it is a gift. How
have we lived our lives lately? May we live forever grateful to our Lord for giving life to us.
Guide Question:
What am I doing so far with my life? Do I live it in such a way that it is pleasing to the Lord?
