'Documenta+on

is not a technique, it is a way of guaranteeing that we are

always reec+ve and valuing the other points of view. Documenta+on
demonstrates the knowledge about a child and about ourselves.
Documenta+on is a dialogue of the children's learning and our own
development and learning.'
-Rinaldi 2002

Because we believe in a growth

mindset and self directed
learning, we make learning
visible.

Documenta3on reinforces our approach to understanding children's

learning. When we document we observe and interpret.
Observa3on is beyond looking or seeing; it is listening and being aware of
the interac3ons taking place.
As documenters these are some of the things we do:
We: listen, observe, make meaning, reect, share, are emo3onally aware,
select, record, plan, value, transcribe, capture, interpret, display, make
visible, record, show evidence, honour theories, research....
We use: TwiHer, Learning Stories, videos, Personal Learning Blogs, photos,
pen and paper, the learning environment, Year 1 blog, documenta3on
panels...

Learning:
Progress, interests, thinking, tensions, theories,
conversa3ons, ideas, connec3ons, reec3ons,
coopera3ve learning, moments, highlights, celebra3ons,
process, student inquires
