Dear Braithwaite,
I just read your article Hooked on a Myth, which is asks whether or not fish can feel
pain or not. I have to say that I agree with most of what you said. Sure, we are unable to see the
pain a fish can endure, but they themselves can feel it. In your third paragraph, you ask whether
or not fish can feel the pain if they were to touch a sharp object. If we were to touch a sharp
object, we would react to that and let out a cry of pain. Fish, on the other hand, can not express
pain by vocals.
Near the end of your article, you asked whether or not we should stop eating fish
because of what youre saying. Personally, I believe that we shouldnt stop eating fish. I know it
goes against what you are saying, but eating fish is an important part of everyones diet, minus
the vegetarians. We may feel bad for the fish we kill, but the fact we cant feel their pain makes
it difficult to cope with.
