Vitamin K Deficiency Bleeding." N.p., 31 Mar. 2014. Web.
Babies are born with close to no vitamin K
It helps with clotting to stop bleeding
Waiting to see if your baby will need the shot doesnt work because bleeding can be
internal so you wont know until it is too late
Bleeding can be life threatening
Breast milk contains a little bit of vitamin k but not enough to support the baby if they
begin to bleed
Newborns who do not get a vitamin K shot are 81 times more likely to develop severe
bleeding than those who get the shot.
Just because your baby doesnt start bleeding right away doesnt mean it cant happen.
Bleeding can occur from up to six months of age
It is very rare for a baby to bleed due to vitamin k deficiency but that is because a lot of
parents chose for their babies to get the shot at birth.
It is proven that in other parts of the world where they dont give out vitamin k shots
bleeding is very common
Bleeding can originate anywhere. Places like the brain, stomach, liver, or even the skin
can bleed.
One out of every five babies with VKDB dies
If the baby has bleeding from the brain it will most likely have brain damage
There was a roumer that vitamin K caused childhood cancer and was proven wrong
This was thought because a child that had gotten the shot when they were an infant ended
up with cancer so people assumed that they were linked
Inside the vitamin K shot are only three things. These are vitamin K, something that
makes it safe to inject, and something to keep all of the liquids mixed
The high dosage of vitamin K is to make up for how much the baby doesnt have already
and to make sure that they have enough
It is completely safe and wouldnt be recommended if not
Your breastmilk will never have enough vitamin K for your baby no matter how much
food you eat that is high in it
Overall the pros override the cons by far
There has only been one allergic reaction to the shot ever so it is very rare that your baby
will have any problems
Your baby may be bruised from the shot but it is nothing compared to not having its life.
This site was a really good way to learn a lot about Vitamin K and I feel very comfortable
with the information it gave me.

HealthDay, WebMD News from. "Parents Who Veto Vaccinations Often Seek Like-Minded
Opinions WebMD." WebMD. WebMD, n.d. Web. 02 Nov. 2015.
Most parents who arent sure about their view on immunizations ask friends and family
A lot of people who have an idea about what they want only ask people who think the
same so that they feel supported in their decision
Most influence comes from family and friends
The majority of people who want to avoid the immunizations are people who believe the
roumers spread about the vaccinations
Doctors find it hard to believe that people are opting out of vaccines due to other peoples
opinions and arent listening to professionals who strongly recommend them and promise
that they are not harmful
Many parents refuse all sorts of vaccines ranging from vitamin K to the chicken pox
vaccine because they are scared it can somehow be linked to autism even though that has
never been proven true.
Scientists have been studying to find a link between the shots and autism but have been
failing for more than ten years
1/3 of parents believe that children get too many shots against too many things in their
first two years of life and that it is bad for them and can be linked to autism as well
A study had been done with 200 parents, out of those 200, 130 had gotten their children
vaccines up to date and 70 didnt believe that it was a good idea and either delayed or
skipped them
A survey was started to figure out where parents were getting their information on how
immunizations are bad for kids
Most people answered saying that other people had told them what they had heard and
why they didnt get them so they went with that advice
Some people also asked doctors, whether the doctors said good or bad things we do not
know
The data showed that a lot of the sources used on the internet talked a lot better about the
shots than the people around them did
Doctors would like parents who do vaccinate their children to become more vocal and
help express the positives in immunizations for their kids health
This source was a completely different viewpoint from what Ive been looking at and it
really helped me get a better understanding for the other side and how doctors think of
people who are like this.

&na;. "Hepatitis B Vaccination Recommended for All Infants." Inpharma Weekly &NA;.869
(1993): 4. Web.
Whenever a baby gets infected it usually stays infected forever
about 1 of 4 infected babies will die of liver failure or liver cancer as adults.
Hep B is contracted through body fluids such as blood from open wound to open wound,
vaginal birth, or intercourse
Hep B isnt only deadly for babies, it is also deadly for adults
This disease is silent, it has no real symptoms and can often go unnoticed until a blood
test or liver problems start to occur
Once you have the disease there is no cure
The hep b vaccine will prevent you from being able to contract the disease
Doctors all highly recommend getting the hep B vaccine as well as other vaccines such as
the whooping cough for your baby
Why take the chance of contracting something if you can prevent it?
Babies and young children cannot fight against Hep B as well as adults can, their chances
of surviving are much lower
Doctors say that getting this immunization is just as important as checking the babies
hearing
Even if the mom doesnt have Hep B, someone in the family could and may not even be
aware so the baby could be at risk
The vaccine comes with three to four doses which means your baby should get the shot
three to four times in its life before it is completely immune to Hep B and wont contract
the disease
Immunity is almost guaranteed after having at least three doses
Vaccinations will not hurt your baby, its okay that they get a lot of them and they dont
like them
Vaccines were meant to help your baby not hurt them, discomfort is normal during the
shot but the tiny pain is worth not risking any type of unwanted disease
It is normal to feel sore after the vaccine and to have a slight fever, just check on your
baby periodically to make sure it is taking the medicine well
It is very rare for a serious reaction to happen after taking the immunization
I was able to take a lot of information from this site to put towards my project, I am
excited to apply it to my PowerPoint.

"Notes from the Field: Late Vitamin K Deficiency Bleeding in Infants Whose Parents Declined
Vitamin K Prophylaxis Tennessee, 2013." Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 15 Nov. 2013. Web. 20 Oct.
2015.

Vitamin K has been practiced since 1961when the American Academy of Pediatrics
suggested it.
The relative risk for developing late VKDB has been estimated at 81 times greater
among infants who do not receive intramuscular vitamin K than in infants who do receive
it.
Four cases of late vitamin K deficient bleeding were recorded in September of 2013.
They all were normal babies until they began to bleed at 6-15 weeks old. They had all
been refused of the vitamin K vaccine.
All four babies survived, but only one was able to recover completely with no damage.
The Nashville hospital has the highest number of neonatal babies and out of all of the
3,080 born, only 3.4% refused vitamin K after the incident concerning the four babies
with late Vitamin K deficient bleeding.
At birthing centers in Tennessee, they delivered 218 babies and 28.0% of them went
without receiving the Vitamin K shot.
When investigators asked the parents of the four babies who bled due to not receiving the
vitamin K vaccine, they said that the impressions that they got were that it was
unimportant, they could be linked to other diseases and disorders, and that they wanted to
minimize toxins that were put into their baby.
Vitamin K deficient bleeding or VKDB is when the baby begins to bleed after they had
not received the Vitamin K shot that helps them clot and stop bleeding.
Babies do have Vitamin K in their cord blood and liver but it is much lower than the
amount that adults get from our food and other functions of the body.
There are three stages where a baby can develop VKDB, they are early, classic, and late.
Without this prophylaxis, incidence of early and classical VKDB ranges from 0.25% to
1.7% of births; incidence of late VKDB ranges from 4.4 to 7.2 per 100,000 infants.

This source gave me a good example of a specific case that has really happened and showed me
true statistics of the rates of which people refuse Vitamin k and how many of those babies end up
with VKDB.

"Hepatitis B Vaccine." Information from Hepatitis B Foundation:. N.p., n.d. Web. 22 Oct. 2015.

The first Hepatitis B vaccination started in 1981 but was discontinued in 1990
They first contained blood products but the vaccine that they use now is synthetic
It is not possible to get hepatitis from the hep B vaccine
You do not have to get the vaccine at birth, you can get it at any point in your life but it is
recommended for babies
If you have aa yeast allergy then you may not want to receive the vaccine
The Hepatitis B vaccine is considered one of the safest and most effective vaccines ever
made.
Many tests have been run to check that sudden infant deaths, neurological disorders, and
multiple sclerosis are not linked.
There are three Hep B shots to get that will guarantee you to be protected from
contracting this disease for your whole life.
The order you get these in is the first one at any time youd like (recommended in the
hospital after birth), the second at least a month later, and the third six months after the
first one
If the baby is younger than 18 months then you wont be able to vaccinate for free and it
could cost anywhere from 75 dollars to 165 dollars
Hep B attacks the liver and can be very serious in newborns
A baby can contract Hepatitis B from Birth if the mother has it because it is spread
through blood and other body fluids.
It can also be transmitted through unprotected sex
It is so important to vaccinate your child with the Hep B vaccine because it is known to
be a very silent disease. This means that there could be no visible symptoms but inside
they could be bleeding or their liver could be failing.
Although your liver is very strong and can still function when 75% of it is gone, if your
whole liver fails then your whole body will fail.
This website helped me with all of the basics on Hepatitis B, I now know more about
what really happens behind the scenes of it all and what other doctors say about it as well.
