RESERVOIR
TRANSMISI
Definition
Zoonoses are infections that are transmitted in
nature between vertebrate animals and man.
They include those infection that man acquires
from lowes animals as well as infections that can
be transmitted from man to lower animal.
Also usually included are infestations with
ectoparasites such as scabies and myiasis in
which the arthropod burrows into or petetrates
the body of the vertebate host
Epidemiology (1)
To understand the epidemiology of zoonotic
diseases, it is first necessary to have a
conprehensive understanding of the cycle of
transmission of the organism in nature.
As with any infectious diseases, four factors
mest be considered in the tranmission of
zoonotic diseases:
Epidemiology (2)
The zoonoses tend to demontrate much
more complexity & variability in their
epidemiology than do most infectious
diseases. This is due to the fact that a
minimum of two hosts, the natural
reservoir host & man, are involved in the
transmission of all zoonotic diseases
the epidemiology of the disease may vary
with each host-agent combination
Transmission
The tranmission of an infectious agent from the
reservoir host to man may take place by any of
the 4 basic routes of disease transmission:
By contact
By the airborne
By vector-borne
By common-vehicle route
Control
Zoonotic diseases present special
problems in the planning of control and
ersadication program
