Movie Analysis: Bruce Almighty

In the movie Bruce Almighty, Bruce has terrible luck in his life, from his relationship with
his girlfriend to his job as a news reporter. As his lousy luck accumulates, Bruce becomes angrier
and angrier at God, claiming He is neglecting him. His frustration leads him to throw a temper
tantrum, blaming God for not fixing his problems. Bruce believes God, with all his divine power,
could make everything right for him with a snap of His fingers. Shortly after, God literally calls
him up on the phone and hands Bruce all of His powers and responsibilities in order to teach him
a lesson. Now drunk with power, Bruce takes advantage of his new heavenly powers to fix his
relationship with Grace. Further, he abuses his power to make a fool out of his competitor news
reporter in order to get his dream job as a news anchor. But as Bruce Almighty, Bruce has to
answer all the prayers. Too busy fixing his own life, Bruce answers everyones prayers without
thinking, causing Buffalo, New York to erupt into chaos. At the end of the movie, Bruce realizes
playing God isnt an easy task to do and surrenders his powers to the real God.
Religion plays a major role in Bruce Almighty. The whole movie is based on the idea that
humans dont understand and appreciate all God does for them. Bruce stopped believing that
everything happens for a reason and started to bash God for not helping him. But at the end of
the movie, Bruce understands that God does all he can for good Christians. Christianity is
portrayed in Bruce Almighty through the principle that if you believe in Gods goodness, God

will answer your prayers. In Christianity, it is taught to always have faith in everything God is
doing because He knows best. Overall, Bruce Almighty portrays one of Christianitys most
significant belief through Gods influence on the main character, Bruce.
