Skeleton Outline
As you have seen through your writing this year, every successful paper requires an
outline, You will need a skeleton outline and a sentence outline for this project. Since
everyone is doing a different project, we prepared a list of general topic areas for you to
cover in order to fulfill a thorough research paper project. For your research paper, you
will be required to become an “expert” on several characteristics of your
diotator/activist's life. They are as follows:

Rise to Power
This section of your paper will be devoted to supplying readers with relevant,
background information. Questions you must consider finding the answers to
are:
+ How did their family/educational/socictal/economic/religious situation
affect their beliefs?
Did any events change their motivation for power?
What government, military, social positions did they hold on their way to
power/influence?
+ Who supported them (domestic and intemational) and how was this
support used?
‘+ How important is money, education, connections, religion or class in this
individual’ rise to power?
Resistance
Every one of the people studied met resistance in some form or another. This
section of your paper will be devoted to discussing the political/religious/ or
other opponents that faced the individual throughout his/her reign,
Appropriate questions are:
* Who opposed him/her? What groups of people especially?
‘What motivated the person towards change?
+ How were his/her ideologies similar/different than previous government?
‘+ How did individual manage resistance?
Maintaining Power or Drawing Attention to Issue (if you have an activist)
‘What gave this individual popularity? (money, military power, religion)
Identify the decisions the person made to promote his/her campaign
Discuss the techniques used fo build popularity or promote nationalism
How did individual utilize media or propaganda?
Focus on key events that demonstrated control
What did individual use to motivate people and build morale?
Pay special attention to common enemy/bero techniques
