I Receive Kriya Initiation
after things for him during the lecture series. (She later ac-
companied him to India.) There was an earthquake in Los
‘Angeles at that time, and he drove there at once to sce that
all was well at Mt. Washington and give them the comfort of
his presence. Ettie invited me to stay with her. She was
pleased that I could come and we became good friends.
During this time I transcribed some of Swami’s lectures on
the typewriter from my shorthand notes.
When Swami retumed, they came to our home for the
remainder of his stay in Santa Barbara, while he conducted
his classes. From the room which he occupied when he was
there he could look upon the sunrise over the mirror-like
bay, and at sunset he could view its last rays dipping into the
‘ocean on the western horizon. This panoramic view included
the long range of Santa Ynez Mountains. The trees of oak
and eucalyptus on surrounding hills create a lovely setting for
the city of Santa Barbara,
All of Master’s lectures and lessons were given extempora-
neously, but they followed a prearranged order of thought.
When driving in the car with him one day, I asked if he
classes here, about a great
yogi, King Janaka. They were favorites of mine that I had
heard him tell, previously. He replied, “Well, they do not go
with the lesson tonight, but I will if you wish them.” In his
considerate way, and to my delight, he told the stories and
would be giving two stories in
everyone enjoyed them.
