Dear Parents/Guardians,
As we know, it can be a challenging transition into middle school, especially in terms of the
workload and work completion. In order to address work completion issues, we will be starting
an After School Study for students that are missing work and are behind in their classes. This
will not only provide time for students to complete their missing work, but it will also provide
them a time to get more assistance and direction from their teachers for whom they owe work.
The expectation is that students who are missing two or more pieces of work and/or a
large project will attend this after school work time. After School Study will take place from
2:45-3:45 every Wednesday and Thursday in Ms. Saikin and Mr. Lawsons rooms. If we feel
that your son/daughter needs to attend After School Study, we will be in contact with you early in
the week in order to accommodate schedules. Students and families can also request that their
child attend. We will be starting After School Study the week of November 16.
In order to participate in After School Study, students will be required to sign up for the After
School Program. This is a free program for middle school students that provides snack as well
as other enrichment programs. There is also bus transportation provided at 4:45 if students
need a ride home. An After School Program form is attached for your convenience.
It is our hope that this is an opportunity for students to stay current with their assignments as
well as take ownership for their learning. We look forward to working together with students and
families. The best outcomes will come from all of us working together as a team. If you have
concerns about your students ability to attend After School Study, please contact one of the 6th
grade teachers.
Sincerely,
The 6th Grade Team
