Elementary Classroom

1. What form of arts integration or interdisciplinary learning units have you

observed? In what ways were the visual forms investigated, learned, discussed,
or produced in the classroom?
o I have witnessed when the students work on their word work, which is
spelling and blends of certain letters, one of the assignments is to find a
way to creatively and artistically write these words.
2. Was there a Big Idea or theme used? If so describe. Were students working
with narrative, observation, imagination, and / or visual thinking?
o There was not a big idea or theme pertaining to art in the classroom. It is
being incorporated because children enjoy being artistic but they needed
to focus on other subjects at that point.
3. What suggestions would you have for integration and interdisciplinary learning
for this unit or lesson you observed? Try to think how you could make the
learning more meaningful, connected, and deeper. Be specific.
o I think this could have been more meaningful if the students were given
more time and media to work with. The students could create the words
through a collage or something of the sort.

Art Classroom
1. The content of the lesson: written and spoken objectives, and resources used
o The objectives were to learn how to draw bodies using bubbles.
Discussed symmetry through a PowerPoint that showed several pictures
of images in the real world that has symmetry.
2. The teacher: her / his teaching strategies and format / process of the lesson as
presented
o When we got there we sat on the carpet and talked about what symmetry
was and how it translates into the human body. Then we discussed motion
and how people can be represented through art. The teacher
demonstrated drawing a student using the bubble strategy. Then we
paired the students and told them that they would be drawing each other
using the bubble strategy. Then let the kids get their supplies and start
drawing.
3. Student engagement of the lesson: classroom atmosphere, environment, and
classroom behavior management
o The student loved the activity. It was a little chaotic because they were
being active and having a good time. I know I enjoyed watching and
talking to the kids. The teacher gave a few reminders to the students to
quiet down but they were really well behaved.
