Pure Business Content releases (SAP BW 2.1C) required a
full upgrade of the BW System at the customer site
Business Content was often released in Support Packages,
e.g. for 3.0B in SP 2
BW Support Package included BW Technology corrections
and Content object corrections

New Situation

From SAP BW 3.1 Content onward, SAP BW Business Content

will be delivered as a separate Software Component BI Content
Add-On.

Benefits of Business Content as an Add-On

Always use of the newest content.
The duration of the upgrade is reduced to one to two hours, as
the Add-On includes only content-relevant parts.
Starting with the BI Content 3.2 Add-On, a technical upgrade of
BW systems is no longer necessary as only content-relevant
objects are imported.
SAP BW Business Content developments and enhancements
are available at shorter intervals.
Changes in the Support Package procedures separation of
Support Packages for the SAP BW Technology and SAP BW
Content permit independent imports and tests of Support
Packages.
The Add-On release will be available for download from the SAP
Service Marketplace, which eliminates time for delivery and
customs duties.

SAP BW 3.1 Content - Basis for further Add-On Upgrades

SAP BW 3.1 Content consists of the components SAP BW (SAP_BW
310) and the BI Content Add-On (BI_CONT 310).

The BI Content 3.1 Add-On is automatically installed when you upgrade

to SAP BW 3.1 Content.
Technical basis for future Upgrades:
SAP BW 3.1 Content SP0 corresponds to SAP BW 3.0B/SP6 and is the
technical basis for future delta Add-On Upgrades.

BI Content 3.5.1 Add-On Only Released for Ramp-Up

Customers
BI Content 3.5.1 Add-On is only released to ramp-up customer with the
NetWeaver04 ramp-up package.

As long as the BI content 3.5.2 Add-On is not available (before

15.06.2004), BI Content 3.5.1 Add-On must be installed during the
upgrade to BW 3.5.

BI Content 3.5.2/3.5.3 Add-On Released for mass

shipment
Since 15.06.2004, BI Content 3.5.2 Add-On is also released for ramp-up
customers. With Mass Shipment of NetWeaver04 (01.10.2004), most
actual BI Content Add-On (BI Content 3.5.3 Add-On) is shipped to
customer as the separate DVD within the NetWeaver04 software
package.

Prerequisite for upgrade to BI Content 3.5.X Add-On

If you want to upgrade to BI Content 3.5.X Add-On Release, we

generally recommend you to install the latest SAP_BW Support
Packages
SAP_BW Support Package 01 is the prerequisite for installing
BI Content 3.5.1 Add-On.
SAP_BW Support Package 02 is the prerequisite for installing
BI Content 3.5.2 Add-On.
SAP_BW Support Package 05 is the prerequisite for installing
BI Content 3.5.3 Add-On.

Ordering of Add-On Software

Three possible channels for ordering the Add-On Software:
1. The upgrade Software for BI Content Add-Ons will be available
for download from the SAP Service Marketplace

2. The upgrade Software for BI Content Add-Ons can be ordered via
OSS
-> component: xx-ser-swft-ship
3. The upgrade Software for BI Content Add-Ons can be ordered via
Software catalogue
-> alias: swcat

Support Packages

Split into two separate support packages: BI Content Add-On

support packages and BW Technology support packages.
There is no automatic dependency between BI Content Add-On
support packages and BW Technology support packages.
For each new BI Content Add-On version we recommend that
you install the latest BW Technology support package.
Future dependencies are communicated together with the
relevant support packages.
