TET 4115: Power System Analysis, FALL 2015

Assignment 6
(Based on Lecture 9 Load Flow Studies I)
Submission deadline: 12 October 2015
Guidance: 05 October 2015
(Note: It helps to solve the problems on slides #15 and #16, Lecture 9, first. Refer to the
document uploaded on solving#15.)

1.1

The unknown variables can be found using Newton's iteration method. Describe
this procedure step by step using words and expressions (5-10 steps).

1.2

The Jacobian matrix must be found when linearizing the equations for active and
reactive power. Calculate an element of the Jacobian matrix that describes the
sensitivity of real power injected at bus 2 with respect to voltage angle at bus 2 for
the case described above.

1.3

A power flow calculation has been performed for the case above. The result is
shown in table 2.

It turns out that the active power consumption at bus 2 is not 0.4, but increases to 0.45 pu. The other parameter values stay the
same. Calculate all state variables and dependent variables for this new case. Assume that the change does not bring the system
outside its valid range.
Hint: Use 2 and 3 from table 2 as your initial guess.
