TQM Defined

TQM is a management philosophy that seeks to integrate all organizational


functions (marketing, finance, design, engineering, and production, customer
service, etc.) to focus on meeting customer needs and organizational objectives.

Techtarget defined TQM as a comprehensive and structured approach which


aims to improve the quality of products and services by means of refinements
and feedbacks.

While Investopedia defined TQM as a continuous process of reducing or


eliminating errors in manufacturing while ensuring the customers experience
as well as the employees training who, as Investopedia believes, are
accountable for the final outcome of the product and services.

On the other side, Wikipedia describes that TQM has an organization-wide


efforts to continuously improve the organizations ability to deliver highquality products and services to customers. Efforts which are based on
developed tools and techniques of quality control.

Lastly, in Google which states that the main role is in the staff members who
must be committed to maintaining high standards of work in every aspect of
a company's operations.

TQM views an organization as a collection of processes. It maintains that


organizations must strive to continuously improve these processes by incorporating
the knowledge and experiences of workers. The simple objective of TQM is Do the
right things, right the first time, every time. TQM is infinitely variable and
adaptable.
Importance of Quality

A quality management method like TQM has a goal of delivering a high


quality product. It is essential to create superior quality products which not
only meet but also exceed customer satisfaction. Business marketers are
successful only when they emphasize on quality rather than quantity.

This customer satisfaction which eventually leads to customer loyalty.

TQM History

Total Quality Management is a management approach that originated in the


1950s and has steadily become more popular since the early 1980s.

It was a tough competition to Northern America and Western Europe from the
Japans capability to produce high-quality products which encouraged and
inspired them to seek and learn to improve more with the help of examining
the techniques of Japan.

Total Quality is a description of the culture, attitude and organization of a


company that strives to provide customers with products and services that
satisfy their needs.
