MARINERS RE-SIGN OUTFIELDER FRANKLIN GUTIERREZ

Former Gold Glove winner had .620 Slugging Percentage in 2015.
SEATTLE, Wash. Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto
announced today the club signed outfielder Franklin Gutierrez to a 1-year contract through the 2016 season. Per club
policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Gutierrez, 32, appeared in 59 games with Seattle in 2015, batting .292 (50x171) with 27 runs scored, 11 doubles, 15
home runs, 35 RBI and 14 walks after joining the Mariners on June 24. His .620 slugging percentage ranked second in
the Majors last season, trailing only Bryce Harpers .649 slugging percentage (min. 150 AB). Despite appearing in only 59
games, Gutierrez ranked 5th on the Mariners roster with 15 home runs and led the team with 11.40 at-bats per home run.
Gutierrez began the year with AAA Tacoma, batting .317 (57x180) with 34 runs scored, 12 doubles, 7 home runs, 31 RBI,
23 walks and 2 stolen bases in 48 games.
Gutierrez did not play in 2014 as he battled the effects of ankylosing spondylitis (AS, a form of chronic inflammation of the
spine and of the sacroiliac joints). Prior to 2015, Gutierrez last appeared in the Majors in 2013, playing 41 games with the
Mariners and batting .248 with 7 doubles and 10 home runs. He missed 106 games in two DL stints with a strained right
hamstring, April 23-June 21 & June 25-Aug. 25. Gutierrez battled several injuries and AS during a three-season span from
2011-2013 that allowed him to appear in only 173 of 486 team games, while making six separate trips to the disabled list.
Gutierrez has appeared in 821 Major League games with the Indians (2005-2008) and Mariners (2009-2013, 2015). In 6
seasons with the Mariners combined to bat .258 (496x1921) with 60 home runs and 229 RBI. He was the 2010 American
League Gold Glove winner for center fielders and set an American League record with 846 consecutive errorless
chances from Aug. 21, 2009-Sept. 11, 2012.
