On what date was the first conscription referendum

held?

Place students in pairs at random.

Hand out sticky notes (different colour per pair), which have
the name of a World War I event written on it.
Advise students that there are dates that have been placed on
butchers paper around the room for students to match the
correlating event.
Have students seated and next to the date write the event that
matches, for students to address how many correct answers
they received.

10

Have one student from each pair collect their coloured sticky
notes which were answered correctly and give to teacher.
Pick one event which students struggled on and address any
concerns.

Work in pairs and use

secondary resources to
find out answers.

Answer
questions
from groups
when needed.
Encourage
explanation of
answers from
pairs.

This exercise
encourages students to
use their own recourses
to help with revision,
social skills and covers
curriculum content.

Having the students

hand up the coloured
sticky notes that were
correct answers allows
the teacher to access
and evaluate where
needs improvement.
