Dear Student,
It was a pleasure meeting you on . I hope you feel connected with University resources
as you continue your time with us as a student.
Folks at NMU care about you and want to make sure you are okay. I want to take the
‘opportunity to remind you of resources available in the event you feel you might harm yourself,
or if you need to talk about feelings of self-harm.
1. Ifyou are experiencing an emotional crisis during regular office hours (Monday through
Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) you can contact Counseling and Consultation Services
(227-2981). Ifyou are having thoughts or feelings of self-harm, Counseling and
Consultation Services is an appropriate resouree and services are free for students,
2. Ifyou are experiencing an emergency, or have intentions of self-harm, please go directly
to an emergency room or dial 911.
3. For assistance in connecting with appropriate resources you can contact any NMU
Resident Director, Resident Adviser, Community Adviser or NMU Public Safety (227-

Engaging in any discussion of suicidal or self-destructive thoughts or actions with other students
interferes with, or can hinder, their pursuit of education and success in the NMU community, If
‘you involve other students in your suicidal or self-destructive thoughts or actions you will face
disciplinary action, Let me know if I can assist in any way to prevent that from happening, It is
important that you refrain from discussing these issues with other students and use the
appropriate resources listed above.
Feel fice to contact me if you have any questions or concems.
‘Warm Regards,
Mary
