9 PLACEMENT

PROJECT DUE 11-17-15

!In life drawing, objects are often at rest on one plane and

we usually draw in perspective to show objects receding in

space. This assignment challenges you to think like a
designer and establish an organizing principal to arrange
the objects in your drawing.

!ASSIGNMENT
!Select a category of objects, boats, for example or a

descriptive category, like fuzzy objects, or loud things.

Draw at least nine of these objects on a sheet of paper.
Then cut them out and glue them on the second sheet of
paper. Place more importance on the arrangement of
objects and less on the representation of the objects.

!MATERIALS
!2 pieces Strathmore sketch paper 18 x 24
any dry media
glue stick

!!
INSTRUCTIONS
!Every object in your drawing has a place on the page. How do you decide where to put it? How will

negative space flow around the objects on the page? Must objects face forward? Must objects be oriented
top up and bottom down? Must close objects be big and far objects be small? What conventions will the
objects in your drawing break or follow? Read the list of words below and consider multiple, possible
spatial relationships between objects.
